Cimarron Alliance Group interviews city council candidates xxxx

The following is a press release from the Cimarron Alliance Group
(Posted 3-5-01)

Cimarron Alliance Group would like to thank the City Council candidates that took the time out of their busy schedules to meet with members of the Board of Directors of Cimarron Alliance Group at The Center on Saturday.  The only three that met with us were Ward 3 candidate David Carroll, Ward 7 incumbent and candidate Willa Johnson, and one of her opponents, Roosevelt Milton. Ward 1 candidate Mick Cornett met with myself and other Cimarron members at an earlier meeting hosted by Mike McClain and Richard Ogden at the Bricktown Brewery.

All four candidates spoke openly and honestly about issues not only concerning our community, but their future plans for the city as well.  Willa Johnson and Roosevelt Milton have strong records on human rights issues and both are friends of our community and David Carroll and Mick Cornett are open minded candidates. We explained to each candidate that we were not a one issue oriented community, but that we all wanted what was best for the entire city.  And what is best for Oklahoma City, Cimarron Alliance Group believes, is the passage of a comprehensive human rights ordinance protecting gays and lesbians, bisexual, and transgendered individuals. Passage of this ordinance would not only protect us, but increase the economic growth potential of this city.

Cimarron Alliance Group's Board of Directors will meet this Wednesday to decide which candidate, if any, to lend monetary support as well as endorsing some as the best possible choices for the Oklahoma City Council. Cimarron Alliance Group encourages every member of the community to get out and vote on March 20, 2001.  The time is now and the choice is ours to act.

Paul Bashline
President,
Cimarron Alliance Group
