FILMHEADS SCOOP ON BOY'S DON'T CRY & ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER
by the FILMHEADS Webmistress exclusively for GayOKC.com

BOYS DON'T CRY

Well, this film was slated to arrive in December but was suddenly pulled from the line up at two theatres just before the holidays. Here it comes again. This time, we hope it really does.

My thanks to any of you, who like my FILMHEADS subscribers, have talked with theatre managers about this and other indie films that you want to see screened in OKC and Norman. As I do periodically, I put together a wish list of acclaimed films showing elsewhere and have begged and cajoled local theatre managers to intercede with their distributors and booking staff to get them here. So, maybe our combined efforts paid off.

In any case, if this film shows up as expected, pleeeeeeeeze attend. Then thank the manager. Okay, guys, here's the scoop~~~~~ Plus, my motherly warning: If you're having a bad week, this is a totally tough film to see. Be prepared.

                         FEBRUARY 18th************

BOYS DON'T CRY
Where: AMC Quail 24 Theatre
Stars: Hilary Swank (Golden Globe winner for this film),
Chloe Sevigny
Director: Kimberly Peirce
Runtime: 1 Hr, 54 Minutes
Genre: Drama (and may I say heavy on the drama; be prepared)
Stunning, absorbing drama based on true story of Brandon Teena, woman who disguised herself as a man, leading to love and murder. Ground-breaking one of a kind film is an acting and directing tour de force.
Close Matches: THE ACCUSED (88), DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS (96)
Creative Matches: FEMALE PERVERSIONS (96) , MA VIE EN ROSE    (I've seen several of these Matches - note that they are not nearly as heavy duty as BOYS.)

ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER

Another film on the way to my great surprise and delight is ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER. It has received many accolades and should be a knockout of a film. Strange enough, none the of the reviews I read indicated what a loyal FILMHEAD passed on: that the film includes a subplot of two lesbian lovers touring the country playing Blanche and Stella from Streetcar Named Desire!!

Again, please try to support independent and foreign films that are screened here. Each one that is well attended adds to the likelihood of other, more controversial films showing up.

                          FEBRUARY 25TH*************

ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER
Where: AMC Robinson Crossing 6 Theatre, Norman
Stars: Cecilia Roth, Marisa Paredes
Director: Pedro Almodovar
Runtime: 1 Hr., 45 Min.
Genre: Drama, Foreign (Spain)
Language: Spanish [I'm assuming this movie has subtitles - Rob]
Almodovar's resonant comic melodrama about women's solidarity and their infinite capabilities as actresses/mothers in real life or on stage. With less comedy than his previous films, it is still a must see for Almodovar acolytes.
Close Match: THE FLOWER OF MY SECRET '95
Creative Matches: ALL ABOUT EVE '50, OPENING NIGHT '77, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE '51, THE WOMEN '39
