Splendid! It's well past the time that gays/lesbians
choosing the Republican Party be fully represented in
the GOP at any level they choose.
Mr. Alexander seems to have forgotten or is ignoring
like the rest of the GOP, that Mary Cheney, older
daughter of the appointed vice-president, is openly
Lesbian and worked for Coors Brewery as a vice-president
for public relations and was hired specifically to
improve relations with gay/lesbian customers. To the
best of my knowledge, Ms. Cheney has not given a
single interview with either the print or broadcast
media since well before the 2000 election.
Senator Kolbe of Arizona, an openly gay man, was
deliberately snubbed on national television at the
Philadelphia 2000 Convention by several of the
delegates.
The Philadelphia Convention also adopted explicit
language condemming gays/lesbians and endorsing the
homophobic policies of the Boy Scouts of America in
its discriminatory practices towards gay men and boys
as leaders and members.
During the 2000 campaign, Governor George W. Bush
refused to meet with any Log Cabin Republican
members, a nominally gay support group for the GOP.
Mr. Bush also threatened to abolish the HIV/AIDS
advisory office which consults with presidents on
this subject of global importance.
Is the GOP afraid that with the united strength of
gays/lesbians of both parties the Kristian Reich-backed
GOP's worst nightmare will be realized? Namely, that
homophobia and bigotry can no longer be legally
enforced!
