OUTART 99 PROUDLY PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF A BRAND NEW PLAY WRITTEN ESPECIALLY FOR US!
OUTART 99 - the Gay and Lesbian Arts Festival of Oklahoma - is presenting two theatrical shows October 9th and 10th at 2 p.m. inside The Copa.
First up will be the Oklahoma premiere of "Tails From the Closet: A Comical Orgy of the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender Life" presented Saturday, October 9th at 2 p.m. This new show is a collection of comical skits that takes a funny outlook at the gay life both from inside and outside the community. "Tails from the Closet is like one big gay variety show," says Robert Matson, member of the OutArt performance committee, "filled with battling sperm, life-sized fruit people, a therapy session for "supposed gay" animated characters, a gay hell, and much more." Tails was put together by local Oklahoma writers: Amy West, David Rudnick, Lane Fields, Timothy Stewart and Robert Matson. Along with the writing team, the company of actors consists of Tanya Hornish, Enoch Elms, Bert Ballou, Lin Hartgrove, Karola Schwartz, Tara Henry, and a special guest performance by Ginger Lamarr. "This show is not meant to be offensive," says Timothy Stewart, also a member of the OutArt performance committee, "it's a chance to laugh at ourselves and at how the world perceives the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender world."
THE B*****S ARE BACK!
The second show to be performed will be the local Oklahoma City hit, "Drama Queens" on Sunday, October 10th at 2 p.m. Author Robert Matson's Drama Queens became a smash hit in Oklahoma City that OutArt decided to bring it back for the Gay and Lesbian arts festival. Drama Queens takes a peek inside a chorus boy's dressing room before and after the curtain falls. Gay and straight characters collide with their overblown egos, bitchy wit, and sex-crazed personalities as they share each other's dreams, ambitions and make-up. Brenda S. Williams, a long-time performing actress at the Pollard Theatre, will direct this all-male comedy. "I'm very excited to see what another director can do with this show," says Robert Matson, "and with Brenda I'm sure the audience will have a fabulous gay old time." Ben Williams and Timothy Stewart reprise their roles as the loud mouthed diva, Mike, and the man-hungry T.J. Joining them is James A. Hughes as the aging tortured soul, Donald, Alan Brawner as the egotistical Kyle, Rudy Cooper as the good old' boy, Scott with Chris Castleberry as the virginal Johnny, Jake DeTommaso as the mousy dresser, Vince Kniffin as the ever-so-late Phillip and rounding out the pack is Michael Greene reprising his role as the silent and quiet, Guy.
There's plenty of laughs and fun for everyone with both Tails From The Closet and Drama Queens so come on out and support the arts!
