MASSACHUSETTS
SUPREME COURT OK'S GAY MARRIAGE
Massachusetts' state Supreme Court ruled
Wednesday "that gays are entitled to nothing
less than marriage and that Vermont-style civil
unions will not suffice". Writing that "The
history of our nation has demonstrated that separate
is seldom, if ever, equal," Wednesday's opinion
by the Supreme Judicial Court left no doubt: Only
marriage would pass constitutional muster.

ANDREA
RATKOVIC REPORTS IN FROM MALLORCA
Here is the first installment of Norman-based
Andrea Ratkovic's Mallorca training journal for
GayOKC.com:
Hey
everybody, it's Andrea Ratkovic reporting to you from
Mallorca, Spain. I'm here at training camp with my
new cycling team, TDS. I haven't bike raced in a few
years. I raced professionally back in 2000 and 2001
and then got into duathlons and triathlons. I have
raced professionally as a duathlete and triathlete
since 2001. Before cycling, I was a runner
specializing in the marathon where I ran a 2:34. I
went to school at OU on a full track and crosscountry
scholarship. You can keep up with me at all times by
visiting my website at www.andrearatkovic.com.
I appeared on the cover of Curve magazine in
October of 2001 and am scheduled for some other
interviews and such. I have been in Outside,
Girlfriends, and The Advocate.
Obviously, I am an "out" lesbian. I feel I
need to be this way because if I treat homosexuality
as an abnormality i.e. hide it then how can I expect
other people to treat it as normal?
Anyway, I'm situated in a hotel just outside the city
of Palma right on the Mediterranean Sea. It is
absolutely beautiful. Palma actually has a gay
district, but I have yet to visit it. Mostly, I am
riding about 4-5 hours every day. My team rides a lot
in the mountains. The roads are very narrow, but the
cars are very aware, and cyclists are well respected
in this part of the world which is both refreshing
and nice.
A men's pro tour started here a few days ago and ends
on Thursday. Many of the Tour de France riders are
here. There are some very nice legs ridin' around
here, boyz!! Anyway, I've chatted with some of them,
and they are just delightful. It is fun trying to
communicate with them as most know very little
English. They are from all over Europe. It is cool
seeing the guys who I watch every year on TV in the
Tour de France.
I'll let you know how the gay district is in Palma
when I go there. Supposedly, this area is a hot spot
for vacations both gay and straight. There are quite
a few hotels that cater to the gay population. There
are nudist beaches too!
ciao,
Andrea

BAT
BOY
Preview of Bat Boy: The Musical
To Benefit RAIN Oklahoma
TulsaFollowing last summers highly
successful run of Bat Boy: The Musical,
American Theatre Company is bringing the show back
for a second run at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center
February 6-14.
ATC is graciously allowing RAIN Oklahoma to sell
tickets to their dress rehearsal of Bat Boy
on Wednesday, February 4 at 8:00 pm. Tickets for this
preview are only $5.00. All proceeds from the
February 4 performance will go to RAIN (Regional AIDS
Interfaith Network), which provides non-medical
assistance to people living with AIDS throughout
Oklahoma.
Rescued from a cave, a half-boy, half-bat is taken to
a veterinarian's home to be "put down." The
empathetic wife of the vet has other ideas, and with
loving guidance teaches "Edgar" to speak
and act in civilized ways. When he falls in love with
his mentor's daughter, problems erupt that go beyond
typical dating issues. Fast-paced and hilarious, this
off-kilter satire offers clever musical numbers, a
hilarious plot, surprising twists, and a lesson in
the agony of being different and accepting your inner
beast. The show contains some adult situations and
may not be suitable for young children.
Michael Smith of the Tulsa World called last
summers production of Bat Boy A
smash, the hippest, most hilarious show on a PAC
stage in a long time.
Tickets for the RAIN benefit performance are general
admission and can be reserved by calling Justice at
the Tulsa RAIN office at (918) 834-4195, or emailing
Justice at raintulsa@sbcglobal.net.
Tickets for the regular run of Bat Boy: The Musical
are $20-$24. They can be purchased at the Tulsa
Performing Arts center ticket office or reserved by
phone at (918) 596-7111 Monday thru Friday from 10:00
am to 5:30 pm. Tickets may also be purchased at www.tulsapac.com.
