Update (2-24): The new issue of the Oklahoma
Gazette contains rave reviews of both All About
My Mother and Boys Don't Cry by John Pickard.
Word has it that attendance figures for these two movies
are not what they could be. This, despite major efforts
on behalf of these movies by the FILMHEADS Webmistress
and GayOKC.com,
and glowing reviews from Kathryn Jenson White in the Daily
Oklahoman (surprise! surprise!).
Certainly one factor as far as All
About My Mother is concerned is the
complete lack of any kind of advance or even current
advertising. This film is supposed to be part of an
experiment by the Brixton Square theater ownership to see
if there is enough of a paying audience to justify
showing "art-house" type movies at the theater.
How is this experiment going to have a fair chance for
success if they don't anything to attract an audience?
Please go see these movies! Our local theaters won't
bring independent GLBT movies to Oklahoma City if we
don't go to see them!

ISTOOK
Dear
Representative Istook:
In your latest newsletter you have printed an endorsement
from Laura Schlessinger praising your term in office.
Ms. Schlessinger has referred to gay men and women as
"biological errors" and "deviants".
Since you have demonstrated your pride in her opinion of
you, do you also share her homophobic attitude?
If you do
share her attitude, Representative Istook, may I ask you
when you have ever had a first hand experience of a gay
man or woman preventing you
from receiving the full benefit of your Constitutionally
protected civil rights?
If you don't
share Schlessinger's homophobia, why did you vote no on
the Employment Non-discrimination Act, known as ENDA,
which would prevent employment discrimination in regard
to sexual orientation?
Do you think it would be appropriate for people like
Schlessinger to refer to Blacks, Jews, or Mormons with
racial or stereotyped epithets? You have associated
yourself with a hate-monger.
Please don't reply to me with bible verses--I believe
that sex and religion should be practiced in private,
between consenting adults. I am concerned with civil
rights for all USA citizens, not religious demagogery.
