ORP CHAIR RESPONDS TO GAYOKC.COM
On Wednesday, I sent the following email to
Gary Jones, state chair of the Oklahoma Republican
Party:
Subject: MEDIA REQUEST: Racicot
& HRC
Mr Jones - According to the Human Rights Campaign
(a national Gay Rights group based in Washington,
DC), "Three leaders in the political world
addressed the Human Rights Campaign board of
directors, board of governors, Foundation board
and steering committees at a March 7 luncheon on
issues of importance to the gay, lesbian,
bisexual and transgender community. The first,
Republican National Committee Chairman Marc
Racicot, discussed Republican Party's priorities
and then answered questions from the audience.
Showing his openness to working with the GLBT
community, Racicot's comments addressed the
importance of outreach and explained his own fair-minded
decision as governor of Montana to sign an
executive order including sexual orientation in
the state's non-discrimination policy."
Would you care to comment on this?

On Friday, I received the following
from Mr Jones:
RE: MEDIA REQUEST: Racicot &
HRC
I met Marc Racicot at a recent RNC meeting and
was very impressed with his leadership. I believe
we need to have open discussion concerning issues
that effect all citizens.
I have to say that I am pleasantly
surprised to receive an actual positive response from
the current state chair of the Oklahoma Republican
Party. I say that because this is the first time I
have ever gotten such a response from the ORP chair.
Prior to the infamous Chad Alexander, I tried sending
media requests to his predecessor - unfortunately his
name escapes me at the moment - and finally got a
message telling me to stop sending him emails! That
was the ONLY response I ever got from him!
Let's hope this is a sign of progress!
PNI FLOAT IN ST PATRICK'S
PARADE
Pride Network, Inc was invited to
participate in Saturday's St Patrick's parade in
Bricktown. PNI member Joe Quigley has passed along 2
reports which can be read by clicking here. PNI will
have their regular monthly meeting tomorrow (Monday)
at 7PM at The Center, 2135 NW 39th Street. Their
recent trip to St Louis, where they co-hosted a
regional conference for Pride coordinators, is sure
to be a big item on the agenda. They are also taking
nominations for Grand Marshalls, which you can email
to pni@okcpride.com. And don't
forget the big fundraiser on Oscar night at Angles
next Sunday!
DEMOCRATIC PRECINCT MEETINGS
Reports indicate a high involvement by GLBT
activists at the Oklahoma Democratic Party's precinct
meetings on Thursday. I hope to have more on this
soon.
WARD 2 WATCH PARTIES
At the Stonewall Democrats meeting on
Wednesday night, candidate Sam Bowman invited
everybody to his watch party at Kamp's Grocery at NW
25th and Classen.
Candidate Susan Johnston also informs me that her
watch party will be at VZD's on N Western, starting
around 7PM!
WARD 2 CANDIDATES SPEAK TO
GLBT GROUPS
3 of the 5 candidates running for Oklahoma
City's Ward 2 council position on Tuesday, March 18,
have spoken to meetings of the Oklahoma Gay
and Lesbian Political Caucus and Central
Oklahoma Stonewall Democrats in the past 2
months - a possibly unprecedented display of outreach
to GLBT voters in any single race in Oklahoma City's
history.
Susan Johnston spoke at the meetings
of both OGLPC and Stonewall Democrats last month, Jim
Sellers spoke at both meetings this month,
with Sam Bowman joining him at the
Stonewall meeting. (Interesting that Sellers, a
Republican, chose to address a group of Democrats:
City Council elections are nominally non-partisan.)
GayOKC.com reporter Michael Coffman
heard Bowman and Sellers at this month's OGLPC and
Stonewall meetings, and spoke with Johnston on
Thursday evening about her appearance at last month's
meetings.

to run again)
Sam Bowman
S. Jean Clark
Susan Johnston
Chris Kauffman
Jim Sellers
Ward 5's
homophobic incumbent Jerry Foshee is
unnopposed and will serve another term (shame
on the residents of Ward 5 for not fielding
someone to run against him!)
Ward 6
Ann Simank (incumbent)
David A. Yeagley
Ward 8
Bob Bemo
Guy Liebmann (incumbent)
OGLPC RATES CANDIDATES
The Oklahoma Gay and Lesbian Political
Caucus has issued a voter guide to
the upcoming City Council elections. OGLPC surveyed
cadidates in Norman, Edmond and Stillwater as well as
OKC. Only candidates from Norman and OKC responded.
The ratings are now online at OGLPC's
website.
