VACANCIES ON STATE TEXTBOOK
COMMITTEE
According to an e-mail by Jim Derby
which has been much-forwarded in the past few days,
"there
are 6 positions available on the STC [State Textbook
Committee]: Congressional District 1 (1x),
District 3 (2x), District 5 (1x), District 6 (1x),
and Lay Person (1x). The "district "
representatives must be active public school teachers.
The Layperson must have children in Oklahoma public
schools. One teacher recently resigned, several
terms expired, and the "lay" position had
been unfilled.
Friends, here is an opportunity to positively
influence the quality of public school education in
our State, by finding well-qualified people with a
balanced perspective on educational issues.
Lets identify some good candidates!"
Oklahoma's
textbook committee has been the center of controversy for
attempting to require a 'disclaimer' - which asserted
that evolution is an unproved hypothesis and urged
consideration for 'creation science' - to be inserted
into biology textbooks.
Derby attributes his information about the vacancies to
committee member Lynne Machado.

the club (under Interests).
Partners, the club, is located at 2805 NW 36th Street,
next door to Levi's, just off the corner of 36th and N
