NW CLASSEN UPDATE
The latest installment from Joe Quigley on the situation at NW Classen High School is now online at
www.gayokc.com/quigley041103.htm.

PFLAG LOBBY DAY
Rob Howard, president of the new OKC PFLAG, writes: Several of the PFLAG chapters in Oklahoma are planning a lobbying day at the state capitol on April 30. We would meet with Keith Smith, (a lobbyist as well as the chair of Stonewall Democrats) at 9:30 in the rotunda. The intent is to have packets of information to pass out to all representatives and senators.
If you are interested in participating in this event, please let me know (by email to
OKCPFLAG@AOL.COM)
OKC PFLAG will be meeting Thursday evening, April 17, at 7PM at First Unitarian Church, 600 NW 13th Street.

OGLPC COCHAIR RECOGNIZED
Jim Nimmo writes: Paul Thompson, male co-chair of the Oklahoma Gay & Lesbian Caucus (OGLPC), was the recipient of the Lecia Swain Ross Award presented at the recent Oklahoma County Democratic Party Convention. The award, named after the much-missed late editor of the Ebony Tribune and co-chair of the Oklahoma County Democratic Party, recognizes those county Democrats who have made a significant contribution to the furtherance of the Democratic Party's ideals of fairness and equality. Upon receiving the award to the accompaniment of tumultuous cheers and applause, the usually voluble Mr. Thompson said only, "There's no higher honor than to mentioned in the same breath as Lecia Swain Ross."
OGLPC meets Monday, April 14 at 7PM at The Center, 2135 NW 39th Street.

GOODBYE MICHAEL COFFMAN
I'm sorry to report that GayOKC.com is losing its latest intern, Michael Coffman. Michael is preparing to move to Arizona to begin graduate school, and between that and family responsibilities, his time for the foreseeable future is spoken for. I feel that I had just barely started to work with Michael, who I'll remember for his sense of professionalism, among other things. I'm sure it will stand him in good stead wherever his life ends up taking him.

INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE
Needless to say, this leaves an opening here at GayOKC.com for an intern (actually several if I could get them!). I am desperately in need of someone who can go out and cover events and write reports on them to post on GayOKC.com, which is something I unfortunately do not have time to do myself. This is an unpaid position, and as such is entirely dependent on what you are willing to volunteer to put the time and effort into doing. This is a great way to learn about OKC's GLBT Community. You must have your own transportation and a computer with Internet access. If you are interested, or you know someone who is, please get in touch with me at
rabiera@gayokc.com.

TRIBAL FIRE
went well in Edmond last weekend, according to Rory, who writes: It was in several issues of the Edmond Sun and on channels 4, 5, and 9. In fact Channel 9 reportedly took a picture of a man in leather on the 6th floor from outside. Protesters pretty much did not show up and news coverage was lower then last year, which is good.
