GAY RAPPERS: TOO REAL FOR HIP-HOP
Well, I don't know if this is the biggest thing going on right now or not, but I do know how big hip-hop is & how it has taken over popular culture, and I do know how homophobic it is. If we could change rap, how could anything stop us? Visit the
News page for the link to the story in today's New York Times (NYTimes.com requires free registration). Let me know what you think at rabiera@gayokc.com!

QUIGLEY IN THE GAZETTE
This week's Oklahoma Gazette has a few words from the Chicken Fried News writers for the administration of NW Classen High School regarding the bulletin board situation: "We at CFN think enough is enough. . . . Solve the mystery, already. We'll be waiting." Joe's last update on GayOKC.com is at
www.gayokc.com/quigley041103.htm.

GAYLA PROM IN DALLAS
GAYla Prom committee member Roger Ryan writes: "The 6th annual GAYla Prom will be held in Dallas, Texas, at SMU's Hughes Trigg Ballroom on Saturday May 10. Last year we had about 250 attendees. We expect the number to be close to 300 this year. This is coming close to being the largest GLBT youth prom in the country. Here is a link to the website:
www.gaylaprom.org. The prom is open to any GLBT youth ages 22 and under regardless of school, city, or state."

OUT AT THE LAKE
Christine Pappas writes: "The East Central University Gay-Straight Alliance and University of Central Oklahoma's GATE are hosting a party at Lake Thunderbird on April 26. "Out at the Lake" will begin 2 pm and end 10 pm. We have a pavillion reserved at the Little Axe area of the lake. We have free t-shirts for the first 30 people who come, and we have many gay pride items to give away as prizes throughout the day. We will also provide food and pop.
Come for a day of fun and gay pride! Please write me back to RSVP at

OKC VOLLEYBALL TEAM NEEDS PLAYERS
I meant to post this some time ago but I kept forgetting. Sorry guys! Joe Moore writes: "The Hail the Marys have gone through some personnel changes in the last few months and will be going through some more in the days ahead. Realizing that change is inevitable and mostly a good thing, we look forward to growing our team and want to invite all interested BB (intermediate level or higher) players to contact either myself or Sterling about joining our team. NAGVA - North American Gay Volleyball Association - is a non-discriminatory organization; so, our team can be comprised of males and females; gay or straight. Initial contact should be made via email, if possible, at:
jmoore59@swbell.net or peshlakia_n@hotmail.com. If email is not an option, interested persons may call me at (405) 440-9365."

PARADE FORMS AVAILABLE
From PNI cochair Ed Kromer: "Pride Network Inc., is pleased to announce that the 2003 Festival and Parade Registration Forms have been printed.  They are available to download from our website, OKCPride.com. The forms are also available at The Center, 2135 N.W. 39th Street.  The registration deadline for T-shirt sponsorship is May 6, 2003."
And don't forget the monthly PNI meeting is Monday, April 21 at 7:30PM at The Center, 2135 NW 39th Street.

INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE
Internships are now available here at GayOKC.com. I am in need of someone who can go out and cover events and write reports on them to post on GayOKC.com, which is something I unfortunately do not have time to do myself. This is an unpaid position, and as such is entirely dependent on what you are willing to volunteer to put the time and effort into doing. This is a great way to learn about OKC's GLBT Community. You must have your own transportation, a computer with Internet access, and, of course, some free time. If you are interested, or you know someone who is, please get in touch with me at
rabiera@gayokc.com.

THANKS FOR VISITING!
