CLASSEN PLAQUE UPDATE Because
a teacher came to me concerned that the "Gift Of
Gay and Lesbian Alumni Of Oklahoma Public Schools"
plaque had once again been removed from the
Community Bulletin Board, I went with a camera in my
hand and a scathing email composing in my mind to
check this out at the end of the day on May 19 as I
was leaving, long after the students had left for
their summer break.
Much to my relief and the later
expressed embarassment of the teacher, he had the
wrong bulletin board, and the plaque was still in
place on the right one.
As I left on May 20, the last day
for faculty, I walked by the Community Bulletin Board
and made sure the plaque was still there. It was.
Therefore, if it were to disappear
between now and when summer school is rumored to
begin, this could only be done by an adult as no
students will be on campus, or we have a very
foolishly homophobic student who is willing to break
into school during summer vacation and risk jail time
for the obsession of removing the plaque at any cost.
I don't see this happening.
So, as of now, the plaque is in
its proper place just as it was during the substitute
teaching extravaganza of Hizzonner the Mayor.
