WILL REP. ROSS RESSURRECT HATE CRIMES BILL?
According to a story written by Ray Carter for GIT, Inc, a private legislative news company, State Representative Don Ross won't reintroduce his Hate Crimes Bill if he thinks the governor will veto it. Ross, D-Tulsa, is quoted in the story as saying that, while he continues to believe that Hate Crimes protections for Gays and Lesbians is an important issue, he doesn't want to burden his fellow lawmakers with having to vote on a bill if the governor is sure to veto it, particularly in an election year. Ross says he wants to approach the governor about the possibility of a compromise before he pushes a new hate crimes bill. Doing so won't be easy, in light of the criticism Ross gave Gov Keating last year when Keating vetoed a Senate Hate Crimes Bill. Ross accused Keating of being insensitive to prejudice. Ross says the governor's attitude will determine whether a hate crimes bill is made a priority this year.

DAILY OKLAHOMAN FINDS "PARTNER BENEFITS STILL CONTROVERSIAL"
A story printed in the Sunday Oklahoman last weekend found that, though some national companies who do business here offer domestic partnership benefits, no local Oklahoma company would own up to doing so. Oklahoma business writer Greg Potts interviewed people from local activist Karen Parsons and Human Rights Campaign spokesperson Daryl Herrschaft to the Family Research Council's Bob Knight. The story is still online at the Oklahoman's website. CLICK HERE

OKLAHOMA GAY AND LESBIAN POLITICAL CAUCUS PREPARES FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING PARADE
After serving admirably in both the annual Pride Parade and the Martin Luther King, Jr Day Parade for the past several years, OGLPC's parade gear - it's banner and "logo" (consisting of a pink triangle set against 2 Greek columns) - is getting seriously worn-out and is in need of major repairs. As part of OGLPC's preparations for this year's MLK Parade (January 17), a "repair party" will be held at OGLPC male co-chair Paul Thompson's house, 1133 NW 32nd, this Saturday at 11AM (not 8 as reported in the Gayly Oklahoman). Anyone who wants to help out will be welcome! OGLPC's January General meeting is Monday, 7PM at The Center, 2135 NW 39th Street. For more info call 524-2131. OGLPC's website is at www.geocities.com/oglpc.

The all-day event will feature workshops and panel discussions on grassroots activism. Registration is $15. For info call 528-0221.
