FEATURES 'CONVERSION THERAPY' ON COVER
For those of you who haven't picked
up a copy yet, this week's issue of the Oklahoma
Gazette (Vol XXII, No 1, Wed, Jan 5)
contains a story written by Shelley Hickman on the
subject of 'conversion therapy'. For her story, "In
the beginning...Does 'conversion therapy' really work?",
Hickman interviewed the heads of 2 OKC 'conversion'
groups: Homosexuals Anonymous and First Stone Ministries.
Both are local chapters of national organizations, First
Stone being affiliated with Exodus. Both 'therapies' are
explained in some detail, and claims regarding success
rates are examined. Disturbingly, Hickman seems to be
asking us to give such programs the benefit of the doubt,
and suggests that they might actually do some good, even
if their claims about actually 'converting' homosexuals
must be looked at skeptically. Also, she does not seem to
have sought out anyone to rebut the claims of HA and
First Stone. All in all, ultimately a very one-sided
story, although it does do a somewhat thorough job of
showing how these people exploit the self-doubts of
homosexuals.
OKLAHOMANS INVITED
TO STONEWALL DEMOCRATS CONVENTION
OKC Stonewall Democrats club
president Paul Barby is inviting Oklahomans to accompny
him to the national convention of the National Stonewall
Democratic Federation in August. This year's convention
will be Aug 10-12 in Palm Springs, CA. There will be
workshops on the national Democratic Party convention,
new club developement, media training and more. Invited
speakers include Gore, Bradley and Democratic House
