"Our freedom was not won a century ago, it is not won today; but some small part of it is in our hands, and we are marching no longer by ones or twos but in legions of thousands, convinced now it cannot be denied by any human force. Today the question is not whether we will be free but by what course we will win."

Martin Luther King, Jr Day

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY IN OKC
The big event today is, of course, the annual parade in downtown OKC. Recent years have seen a growing number of GLBT organizations marching in the MLK parade, including the Oklahoma Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, Cimarron Alliance Group, Equal! at Lucent, University of Oklahoma Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Alliance, and the Church of the Open Arms. They march in the Martin Luther King Parade to remind everyone that Gay Rights are Civil Rights. The parade will step-off at 1PM at Calvary Baptist Chusrch at NW 3rd and Walnut and will end up at the Myriad Convention Center, where there will be a post-parade program at 3PM. OGLPC male co-chair Paul Thompson (who is also on the board of the OKC chapter of the NAACP, by the way) served on the Martin Luther King parade committee (officially known as the Martin Luther King Festival Coalition).

GayOKC.com INTERVIEW WITH ROOSEVELT MILTON (JANUARY 1999)
I did this interview in January of last year with Roosevelt Milton, president of the Oklahoma City chapter of the NAACP. I think many of the things he said then are still relevant today. Click here to read it.
