EPWORTH PRESENTS 'FESTIVAL OF LOVE'
Epworth Church news release - Epworth United Methodist Church will hold a Valentine's Day Festival of Love for ALL Couples on Sunday evening, February 13, 2000, beginning at 6 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 1901 North Doulgas in Oklahoma City. The Festival, which is open to the public, will include a special celebration service to honor the relationship of all couples, including same gender couples, married couples, dating couples, friendship couples, and all other God given varieties of individual human relationships.  Other planned events include a Red Hot Lovers Of Chili Supper, sock hop dancing to your favorite love songs, and a Love Song Karaoke Contest.
The Festival is a part of a nationwide effort organized by the United Methodist Covenant Relationships Network (CORNET).  The idea started as a question: "Why can United Methodist ministers bless homes, cats, dogs and cattle barns but not the friendship and pledge of fidelity of two consenting adults?"  The Festival is designed to demonstrate our church's belief that all couples should receive the ministry of the church and to show that the people of Epworth value both the words and meaning of Christ's message that we should love one another, just as God loves us."
Epworth invites everyone to be a part of this event which affirms and rejoices in all the different degrees of love which God has given us. By being a part of it, people will not only have fun, but will be making a statement about what is right and just in our world. Epworth United Methodist Church welcomes and affirms Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people and actively seeks to change the United Methodist Church's policies that discriminate against Homosexual members.  The Church is currently working to reverse provisions of the United Methodist Church Book of Discipline, which prohibits same-sex unions or commitment ceremonies. For more information on Epworth United Methodist Church and its Valentine's Day Festival Of Love, call the church office at 525-2346 or visit the church's website at
www.epworthchurch.com.

PARADE ORGANIZERS HOLDING LOGO CONTEST
Pride Network, Inc, the group which is organizing Oklahoma City's Pride events, will hold a competition to design this year's logo. Entries must use the national theme: "Take Pride - Take Joy - Take Action", and must include the words: "OKC Gay & Lesbian Pride Parade 2000". Entries should be on one side of a sheet of heavy paper or poster board and the name, address and phone number of the artist on the other side. Entries can be mailed to Pride Network, Inc, PO Box 60296, Oklahoma City, OK, 73146-0296, or delivered in person to The Center, 2135 NW 39th Street. For full details, call 524-2131.
At the Pride Network meeting on Monday night, Margeret Cox was selected treasurer for the organization and ideas were discussed to expand the opening ceremonies to make it a bigger, more fun event. Various fundraising possibilities were also discussed. The next meeting will be Monday, Feb 28, 7:30PM in the home of Paul Thompson, 1133 NW 32nd, and is open to the public.
