EPWORTH PRESENTS 'FESTIVAL OF LOVE'
Epworth
Church news release - Epworth United Methodist
Church will hold a Valentine's Day Festival of Love for
ALL Couples on Sunday evening, February 13, 2000,
beginning at 6 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 1901 North
Doulgas in Oklahoma City. The Festival, which is open to
the public, will include a special celebration service to
honor the relationship of all couples, including same
gender couples, married couples, dating couples,
friendship couples, and all other God given varieties of
individual human relationships. Other planned
events include a Red Hot Lovers Of Chili Supper, sock hop
dancing to your favorite love songs, and a Love Song
Karaoke Contest.
The Festival is a part of a nationwide effort organized
by the United Methodist Covenant Relationships Network (CORNET).
The idea started as a question: "Why can United
Methodist ministers bless homes, cats, dogs and cattle
barns but not the friendship and pledge of fidelity of
two consenting adults?" The Festival is
designed to demonstrate our church's belief that all
couples should receive the ministry of the church and to
show that the people of Epworth value both the words and
meaning of Christ's message that we should love one
another, just as God loves us."
Epworth invites everyone to be a part of this event which
affirms and rejoices in all the different degrees of love
which God has given us. By being a part of it, people
will not only have fun, but will be making a statement
about what is right and just in our world. Epworth United
Methodist Church welcomes and affirms Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual and Transgendered people and actively seeks to
change the United Methodist Church's policies that
discriminate against Homosexual members. The Church
is currently working to reverse provisions of the United
Methodist Church Book of Discipline, which prohibits same-sex
unions or commitment ceremonies. For more information on
Epworth United Methodist Church and its Valentine's Day
Festival Of Love, call the church office at 525-2346 or
visit the church's website at www.epworthchurch.com.
