LOCAL TEACHER MAKES HOPE CENTERPIECE FOR LEGISLATURE
BID
OKLAHOMA CITY: City teacher Jennifer Seal called for
a renewed HOPE in Oklahoma when announcing her
candidacy for the State House of Representatives.
Seal, a history teacher at Putnam City North High
School, says that serving in the legislature has been
a longtime dream.
"This has been a goal of mine for more than a
decade and now it is time to move forward," Seal
said in making her candidacy for the north side's HD
85 seat official.
"I want to
bring HOPE back to Oklahoma. Being a historian, I
have learned a lot about what values and strengths it
took to make Oklahoma a place where people could
settle and I want to bring those ideas back to the
people," Seal said. "Our struggle as a
state was born from the Populists and then the
Progressives, two groups which wanted to help people
less fortunate than themselves. This is why I base my
candidacy on 'Learning from history, Leading with
HOPE.'"
"HOPE as an acronym for Health Opportunity
Progress and Education. These are the values that
will set our state back on the right path. We need to
inform our people about the consequences of
destructive health decisions they make so heart
disease will no longer be the number one killer in
Oklahoma. All of our children need basic health
coverage. We need to bring decent-paying jobs back to
our state so that our people don't have to leave to
find a living wage. We need to embrace innovative
technologies like wind energy so we can lead the
nation in renewable resources," she said. "But
we can't do any of this without educating our
children to their fullest potential. There is a
reason Oklahoma was the only state west of the
Mississippi to lose a Congressional seat. I believe
we can change this. I have ideas on how to get it
done and the will to listen to the ideas of others."
"TEAM SEAL's" kick-off event was held at
the home of County Commissioner Jim Roth, a friend
and mentor to Seal.
"I am honored that Commissioner Roth hosted my
kick-off. His own campaign was an example to me as is
the way he has conducted himself in his new role. He
is a leader Oklahoma City can be proud of," she
said.
Seal has been a public school teacher for more than
five years, teaching both music and history. In this
time she has been recognized for her leadership by
being selected to represent them in contract
negotiations. She has also been accepted to the
Outstanding Teachers Academy and her students have
been recognized for their success on Advanced
Placement tests, in National History Day
competitions, and as community leaders on the
Oklahoma City Youth Council.
Seal's many volunteer activities include serving as
deacon of her church, being on the board of the
Neighborhood Alliance and her neighborhood
association, as well as mentoring her sorority
sisters in Alpha Chi Omega.
Before beginning her teaching career, Seal received a
Fellowship from the James Madison Foundation to study
Constitutionalism at the University of Central
Oklahoma. Prior to that she graduated Summa Cum Laude
from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Arts
in History and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Education.
She is married to Greg Seal, an Administrative
Assistant with the law firm of Hall Estill et al. He
is working towards completion of his Legal Assistant
certification at the University of Oklahoma Law
School. For more information email Jennifer at teamseal2004@yahoo.com.
