ANNOUNCING SPEAKERS FOR GAY AND LESBIAN ISSUES

SPEAKERS FOR GAY AND LESBIAN ISSUES is a new service for the central Oklahoma area which will provide speakers to groups and organizations looking for individuals willing to share their perspective on the experience of being Gay or Lesbian. Our speakers are Gays and Lesbians, they are parents of Gays and Lesbians, they are heterosexuals who support the efforts of Gays and Lesbians to be accepted by the community at large.

Our speakers are members of such groups as the Cimarron Alliance Group, Oklahoma Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, Parents Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), EQUAL! at Lucent Technologies, Church of the Open Arms, and the Oklahoma Peace House. They are experienced in a wide range of public speaking situations and are knowledgeable on a variety of topics pertaining to the experience of being a member of a sexual minority. They are ready to talk with your neighborhood association, political club, employee group, civic league, chamber of commerce, church, or discussion group about being Gay and Lesbian, about the things we deal with as we live our lives, and how we fit into the communities in which we all live.

The mission of SPEAKERS FOR GAY AND LESBIAN ISSUES is to reach out to the communities of central Oklahoma. We are just like you. We are your neighbors. We work at the same jobs at the same companies. We pay the same taxes. We have the same concerns you do. We are part of your community. The only difference is that some of us are persons whose awareness of our sexuality and gender identity may not be the same as yours. We offer the communities of central Oklahoma the opportunity to explore and understand our sameness as well as our differences, and the ways these qualities impact all our lives.

To arrange for speakers, call Nathaniel Batchelder at 524-5577 or Paul Thompson at 524-2131.
