The following is an email from Karen Weldin
(Posted 3-1-02)

Dear Soulforce Friends,

This is a very important email to remind you of our principles as you are
preparing to travel to Church Of the Open Arms on Saturday, March 2nd.

1. Remember that Soulforce is based on the nonviolent principles of M.K.
Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.
2. Remember your Soulforce Pledge to Nonviolence:
- As you prepare to march meditate on the life of Jesus
- Remember the nonviolent movement seeks justice and reconciliation, not victory
- Walk and talk in the manner of love, for God is love.
- Pray daily to be used by God that all men and women might be free
- Sacrifice personal wishes that all might be free
- Perform regular service for others and for the world.
- Refrain from violence of fist, tongue, and heart.
- Strive to be in good spiritual and bodily health
- Follow the direction of the movement leaders and of the captains
on demonstrations.
3. As you arrive at Church of the Open Arms, remember:
- Do not make eye contact with anyone involved with the KKK
- Do not say anything to a protestor
- Do not stand outside alone

Please know that ANY violence of tongue or fist could leave the Church of
the Open Arms liable.  We must ignore any shouts, slander, and gestures
from the protestors.

There are nearly 80 of us trained in the Soulforce nonviolent principles.
I believe we can be of great help and role models Saturday.

Please keep Rev. Kathy McCallie, Church of the Open Arms, and all the
conference sponsors in your thoughts and prayers.
Keep us in your prayers as well.

See you Saturday,

In love and peace,

Karen
