Sullivan running anti-Gay campaign? | |
The following is an email from Barbara Santee. She has told me that she got her information from a magazine in Tulsa called Community Spirit.

John Sullivan won (the District 1 primary) with grassroots support from the Christian Coalition, but he was also endorsed by a former Rep mayor and very prominent Catholic here in Tulsa, Robert LaFortune. That may have cut into Cathy's Catholic vote. I have several quotes from Sullivan re: his stance in different issues which I've summarized below:
supports school vouchers, but says the better way is to give $2500 per child tax credit.
opposes abortion except if the woman's life is at risk. He would overturn Roe s. Wade. Last spring, he authored the parental notification law that is being challenged in the courts.
opposes gay marriages. "Marriage is between a man and a woman."
faith-based initiatives - supports tax credits for people who give to the charity of their choice. Tax deductions are already in place for contributions to any 501(c)(3), so he's blowing smoke here.
Tribal Sovereignty - There was an ad in the Tulsa World before the primary which gave the answers of the four main candidates to various questions re: Native American issues. Doug Dodd, the Democratic candidate gave very thoughtful, in-depth answers, and referred to specific legislation showing he had researched the issues. On the other hand, Sullivan's answers were one liners, basically "yes" or "no." No thought given to it at all.
In his TV ads he kept saying he wanted to get the government out of our lives, but in the same breath, said he wants to "protect the unborn," which is the government forcing women to carry unwanted pregnancies to term. How intrusive can the government get?
I have the impression Sullivan is not just dumb, but plain vanilla stupid. God help us. Largent was stupid but at least he was pretty!
I was at a meeting at All Souls Wednesday night and a man said he had been called by a telephone pollster. He said the young woman asked quite a few questions, but at the end she started asking questions like, "Would you vote for Doug Dodd if you knew he supported homosexuals when he was on the school board?" "Would you vote for Doug Dodd if you knew he was absent 40% of the time at school board meetings in 2001?" and so forth. I presume the Rep Party was paying for this so-called "poll" which is really a propaganda tool. They have no shame whatsoever. What a bunch of jerks!
