Local activist to receive award

The following is an email from James Nimmo
(Posted 1-11-02)

Paul R. Thompson, a lifelong citizen of Oklahoma City and an active, clever, and provocative Democrat will be one of eight Oklahoma citizens receiving this year's "Keeper of the Dream" award from the Ebony Tribune newspaper this Saturday, January 12. A reception in honor of all the recipients will be held at noon on the Langston University OKC campus, 4205 N. Lincoln, near the County Election Board Office.

Mr. Thompson is, among other positions, male co-chair of Oklahoma Gay and Lesbian Caucus (OGLPC), a member of NAACP Board and M. L. King Parade Planning Committee, chair of House District #88, and a founding member of Central Oklahoma Human Rights Alliance (COHRA).

Paul Thompson is one of the most fervent activists for minority rights now living in Oklahoma City. The awarding of the "Keeper of the Dream", which is determined by a vote of the subscribers to the Ebony Tribune, confirms his commitment to the inclusion of all minorities--sexual, racial, and others--into the complete fabric of American political and social life.

The reception is open to the public and all are invited to attend.
